SPP refers to Student Partners Program. It is a framework designed jointly by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) visa offices in India and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) to offer maximum help to the Indian students who are planning to study and work in Canada. This joint pilot project focuses on streamlining the visa procedures to Canadian educational institutions. As a student, your visa process can be hastened with the help of this program and it also helps you receive a student visa with minimal documentation.

The application process

More than 45 colleges have been included in the list of Participating Canadian Colleges under the SPP. You need to apply to any of the participating institutions for getting an admission under this program and if you meet the eligibility criteria, your application will be accepted for further processing.

Careful selection of Universities and programs

Several students find it hard to identify the most suitable university and program that meet their exclusive needs. You must be very careful while choosing an institution and a course or program in Canada. It is always advisable to hire a trusted foreign education and immigration consultant who is capable of offering the best counseling and guidance services. Reputed consultants always help you choose the right course and college, and they also guide you how to submit the application and follow it up regularly to ensure fast processing and speedy approval. Majority of colleges listed under the SPP provide courses which make the students eligible for post-study work permit in Canada and reliable educational consultants have the expertise and experience to guide you through the right track to help you make the best decision.

Eligibility Requirements for SPP

All applicants must have a minimum of 50% of marks in the 12th grade, degree or diploma. Another qualification that you need is 6.0 bands for IELTS examination and if you are applying for health related programs, you must have 6.5 bands in the IELTS exam. Medical examination needs to be conducted under the supervision of an SPP approved physician and this medical report should be produced prior to submitting the visa application form. Full mark sheets are also necessary and your Letter of Acceptance containing date of commencement and duration of the course must be produced as well.

Financial documents to be produced

The minimum funds that need to be arranged for the approval of the visa include one year tuition fee for the program you are going to attend and the living and travel expenses for one year. For covering the living expenses needed for the first year, you can produce a $10,000 CAD Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) bought from Scotia Bank GIC. A proof of payment for the education fee should be produced and an education loan from an Indian Chartered Bank can also be submitted as a proof of fund. It is not at all advisable to have a study gap of more than 2 years for undergraduate programs and the gap must not exceed 5 years for the post graduate programs.

How does SPP become beneficial for students?

Securing a student visa for Canada can always be described as a lengthy and time consuming process. This delay can be addressed with the help of SPP and it makes visa processing extremely fast. If you submit all the details correctly, you can expect to receive the visa within 5 to 10 working days. Application through the conventional method makes the screening process of the institution and course extremely difficult and tedious. When you apply under the SPP, you have the liberty to select a college or university from a pool of top quality educational institutions. Since the medical reports are submitted in advance, the visa processing becomes extremely faster.  Lesser documents need to be produced to get a student visa for Canada under the SPP compared to other types of visa applications and there are also a lot of post study work options available for students under this scheme. Last but not the least; you do not have to worry about the hassles involved with submitting income tax proof as well.
