The Liberal Government in Canada has tabled a new Multiyear Immigration strategy on 1 November, 2017 in the House of Commons. According to this plan, Canada is going to accept one million immigrants by 2020. Under this project, the Canadian Government is intending to accommodate 310,000 immigrants including economic immigrants, family reunification and protected refugees in 2018. This number will go up to 330,000 in 2019 and 340,000 immigrants are going to settle in 2020. These figures show that approximately a million immigrants are going to settle in Canada by 2020.
Historic, ambitious and responsible plan to address the need for skilled labor
According to the Canadian Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen; this multiyear immigration levels plan is the most ambitious and responsible one in the recent Canadian history. It is being implemented to address the ever increasing demand for the skilled labor in the country. The government intends to use immigration as a tool to strengthen the economy of the nation and it firmly believes that this plan is going to encourage economic growth in the context of the recent decline in the labor force growth and increasing aging population.
The fast increasing importance of Express Entry
The economic migrants are going to constitute the bulk part of the new permanent residents admitted to Canada. Out of which, majority of the newcomers are going to enter through the program known as Express Entry. This number is going to increase significantly every year until 2020. To be more specific; 565,000 of the one million immigrants are going to be accommodated through the economic programs and of which; around 250,000 will reach Canada through one of the federal economic programs administered under the Express Entry. The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has categorically stated that Express Entry has become the most prominent driver of economic immigration and the number of Invitations to Apply (ITA) issued in 2017 so far has gone past the total number of ITAs issued in 2015 and 2016 together.
Lowered CRS cut-off thresholds
The new plan has started playing a major role in lowering the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off threshold in 2017 itself. The fact of the matter is that as the target intake increases, CRS cut-off thresholds come down. The figures in 2016 and 2017 clearly substantiate this conclusion without a shadow of doubt. In 2016, the lowest cut-off threshold score was 450. The lowest score drawn this year till date is 413. Prior to a few hours before the declaration of the Multiyear Immigration Strategy by the Government, a threshold of 241 was drawn for Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC). These figures suggest that the cut-off thresholds are going to come down significantly in the next three years as the IRCC have plans to increase the target intake.
Express Entry opens up new possibilities for immigrants
All these aspects bring more and more opportunities for Canada immigration aspirants and the number of people submitting the applications for immigration has increased manifold. Most economic newcomers are making use of Express Entry immigration selection system to embrace a better life and future in Canada. Express Entry allows the skilled immigrants to arrive Canada under three federal economic programs and they include Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skills Trades Program and the Canadian Experience class. This immigration method also allows territories and provinces to recruit candidates through their Provincial Nominee Programs for fulfilling the labor market requirements.
How to apply for Express Entry?
If you are planning to apply though Express Entry system, you need to prepare an Express Entry profile and it must contain details about your education, language ability, work experience, skills and other related details needed to make a complete assessment. You have to submit this profile online. If you get high scores in the assessment, you will be chosen for expedited processing. Candidates, who have secured an approved job offer from a Canadian employer, would be awarded some extra score. If you don’t have any job offers, you would be advised to get in touch with a job bank platform. These types of platforms are the ones that work as the connecting link between you and the employer. You can also promote yourself to employers through job boards and seeking the help of a reputed recruiter is another way of getting connected with a Canadian employer. A method known as Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to rank the applicants in the pool against others. If you are one of the highest scorers, you will be invited to apply and your application for permanent residence must be submitted within 60 days of invitation.
