Study at University

Students can pursue various types of programs to study at university in Canada. These programs can be described as:

Bachelor’s Degree:

  • is an undergraduate academic degree rewarded by the universities after completion of a particular course.
  • The bachelor’s degrees usually last for 4 years in Canada. However, the students can opt to finish these degrees in fast track and finish them in three years.
  • The English requirement for the degree programs is 6.5 with not less than 6.0 and the universities also accept PTE, TOEFL, and other English scores.
  • the students can also apply with pathway programs if they do not qualify for direct entry into the degree programs due to low academics, or low English requirements. 
  • The students who are pursuing their degrees back home and have finished one, or two years of the bachelor’s degree can also plan to apply to study bachelor’s in Canada with the credit transfer and start their degree in Canada directly from the 1st or 2nd year.  

Master’s Degree:

  • It is a degree awarded by the universities upon successful completion of the course of study demonstrating mastery/higher order educational review of a specific field or area of professional practice.
  • Typically, these programs last for one to two years.
  • In general, the IELTS requirement for admission at the university level is overall 7.0 with not less than 6.0 in any module. However, some universities accept 6.5 with not less than 6.0 in any module.  The universities also accept PTE, TOEFL, and other English scores. Post Graduate/Post Baccalaureate Programs:

  • Some Universities also offer Post Graduate programs; also known as post-diploma, or Post Baccalaureate Programs.
  • The academic requirement is usually lower for these programs and students who cannot qualify for admission into Masters programs can first apply for the postgraduate program and then move to Masters programs. 
  • The IELTS requirement for postgraduate programs is usually lower overall 6.5 with not less than 6.0 in any module and the universities also accept PTE, TOEFL, and other English scores.
