This program operates under Canada’s Express Entry system, which manages applications for permanent residency through a competitive pool of candidates.

Key Features of the FSTP

Key Features of the FSTP

  • Eligibility: Candidates must have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time experience) in a skilled trade within the past five years.
  • Language Proficiency: Applicants must meet the minimum language requirements in English or French across all four abilities: speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
  • Job Offer or Qualification: Candidates must have either:
    • A valid job offer for full-time employment of at least one year OR
    • A certificate of qualification in their trade issued by a provincial or territorial authority.
  • NOC Codes: The program includes a list of eligible occupations under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.

How to Apply

  • Assess Your Eligibility – Determine if you meet the requirements for the FSTP.
  • Create an Express Entry Profile – Submit an Express Entry profile on the IRCC website.
  • Receive an ITA – If selected, submit a complete application for permanent residency within the specified deadline.
  • Medical Exam & Police Clearance – Complete the required medical exam and obtain a police clearance certificate.
  • Application Processing – IRCC will process your application, and if approved, you will receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency.
